CAHPI (Canadian Association of Home & Property Inspectors) is the only industry association recognized by CMHC in establishing home inspection standards. It's BC charpter achieves it's Mission by:
- Providing Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
- Requiring potential Associate Members to complete the courses offered at BCIT and before writing the CAHPI Entrance Exam
- Upon successful completion of the exam, potential Associate Members must complete a minimum of 250 pre-purchase inspections that conform to CAHPI(BC) Standards of Practice prior to receiving RHI (Registered Home Inspector) status
- Only once RHI status has been granted and a successful criminal check performed can eligible members in good standing with their association apply for BC licensing.
- Requiring all eligible Members to carry Errors & Ommissions Insurance and Comprehensive General Liability Insurance
- Requiring mandatory continued education credits in order to retain membership
- Providing a process for the response to complaints, and, as required, a disciplinary process for Members
- Supplying information, news releases, and articles to all media in British Columbia
- Requiring all Members to use a written contract meeting minimum standards for all residential inspections
